(April 19, 2015) – Despite the bye week, it certainly wasn’t a slow news week for the Boston Breakers.
U.S. Women’s National Team coach Jill Ellis announced her 23-player squad for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada, and Breakers keeper Alyssa Naeher was named to the team. This will be Naeher’s first World Cup with the senior team. She helped lead the U.S. U-20s to gold at the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Chile. This week, the Breakers announced that former captain and U.S. Women’s National Team midfielder Leslie Osborne will have her No 12 jersey retired and that she’ll enter the Breakers Pillars of Excellence. The ceremony will take place at Boston’s home game on May 22 against Sky Blue FC. Osborne will be present at the match. The official Breakers supporters group, The Boston Armada, now has a name for its section at Soldiers Field Soccer Stadium: The Cove.
