A look back at this past week in Breakers news

(April 10, 2015) – After a brief hiatus, the Breakdown is back. And there is a lot of news to catch up on.

The Breakers finalized their 2015 roster by making their final signing of the preseason. Monday, the Breakers signed former Seattle University star Stephanie Verdoia, who was acquired in the 2015 NWSL College Draft. One of the leading scorers in the nation in 2014 for Seattle University, the 22-year-old Salt Lake City, Utah native led the Breakers this preseason with three assists in four matches. Monday afternoon, the Breakers announced their 20-player roster for the start of the 2015 NWSL season. Eleven players return from last year’s squad, including 2014 NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year Alyssa Naeher, Hanson, Mass. native and former Boston College All-American midfielder Kristie Mewis, and midfielder Katie Schoepfer, who is entering her fifth season in Boston. This year’s team also features four Brazilian internationals: Bia, Ketlen, Rafinha, and Suzane Pires. Check out the entire roster here:

Saturday, April 4, the Breakers capped their 2015 NWSL preseason with a 3-1 win over the University of Connecticut at ForeKicks Sports Complex in Marlborough, Mass. Rachel Wood, Stephanie McCaffrey, and Kristie Mewis scored. Mewis led the Breakers this preseason with three goals. Read a full match recap at

The Breakers unveiled their 2015 jerseys Thursday, April 2, at We Got Soccer in Foxboro. Keeper Jami Kranich, midfielder Kristie Mewis, and defenders Julie King and Kassey Kallman showed them off during the jersey unveiling and meet the team event (photo below by Mike Gridley).

The Breakers recently returned from an eight-day preseason trip to Florida. The team trained in Jacksonville and just outside of Orlando and beat the Jamaican Women’s National Team, twice, both by 5-0 counts. More than 2,000 fans came out to see the Breakers play, many from the Breakers' Florida youth affiliate, Florida Elite Soccer Academy.
