(May 20, 2016) - North Carolina-based company OT Sports has created The Rachel Wood Perseverance Award.

Most known as a jersey supplier to Minor League Baseball as well as several minor league hockey teams, OT Sports produces replica and on-field specialty jerseys for teams on their many theme and charity nights. In 2015, OT Sports produced more than 350 different specialty game-worn jerseys, celebrating everything from breast cancer awareness to Star Wars to '80s nostalgia.

Boston Breakers defender Rachel Wood battled and triumphed over injuries and Crohn’s Disease to achieve her dream of being a professional athlete in the National Women’s Soccer League.

She is an inspiration for those enduring similar autoimmune diseases, helping them believe that anything is possible. This annual award, which we present every December, symbolizes what Rachel stands for and honors others who have overcome significant obstacles in their lives to reach their goals in athletics.

Wood began her career with the Breakers in 2013, playing for the Reserve Team. The following year, she earned a contract with the first team. In three professional seasons with the Breakers, Wood has made 18 appearances, scoring one goal and tallying one assist.

If you would like to nominate someone you think is worthy, please fill out the form on the OT Sports website here. Nominations for the current year will be accepted through Nov. 15, 2016.
