Leonie Maier lifts Germany to 1-0 win over France

(March 3, 2016) - The German Women's National Team opened up the SheBelieves Cup in Tampa, Florida Thursday afternoon with a 1-0 win over France in a showdown against the Nos. 2 and 3 FIFA-ranked teams, respectively. And it was No. 2 Germany who came out on top.

Leonie Maier's goal in the 83rd minute proved to be the difference for Germany. The right back scored off a corner kick after France failed to clear.

Both teams struggled to create chances in a scoreless first half.

Sunday, both teams return to action. France plays the U.S. at 3 p.m. ET, and Germany takes on England at 5:30 p.m. Both games take place in Nashville, Tenn.
