Breakers sign Jamie Gillis as goalkeeper replacement

(Aug. 2, 2017) – The Boston Breakers announced today the signing of goalkeeper Jamie Gillis. Per team and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Gillis is a goalkeeper replacement for Abby Smith, who is on international duty with the U.S. Women’s National Team.

The 29-year-old Billerica, Mass. native most recently played for the Boston Breakers Reserves in the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL). She led the Reserves to the WPSL National Championship Final Four and finished the season with a 9-1 record, allowing just seven goals in 10 games. Gillis and the Reserves went 8-0 during the regular season to win the New England division.

A two-time All-American at UMass-Lowell, Gillis holds several school records, including career shutouts (38) and goals against average (0.81). Following her college career, Gillis played three years professionally in Finland for GBK, helping the team earn promotion to the top-flight Naisten Liiga in 2012.

The Breakers return home to face FC Kansas City on Friday, Aug. 4 at 7 p.m. ET at Jordan Field in Allston, Mass. Tickets to all Boston Breakers home games are available by calling 617-945-1704 or by visiting breakerstickets.com.
