(July 11, 2014) – The Boston Breakers announced today that the club has signed defender Rachel Wood. Per team and league policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
As a member of the Breakers’ reserves program, Wood played nine games and registered one goal and three assists. Prior to joining the Breakers, she played with HK/Vikinger in Iceland. A native of Laguna Niguel, Calif., Wood played in college at North Carolina and UC Irvine.
“Rachel is a player who was close to earning a pro contract out of preseason camp,” Breakers general manager Lee Billiard said. “She made the decision to stay, train and play in our reserve team program where we have been able to see her develop under our philosophy. Nobody is more excited to see a reserve team player break through and be offered a pro team contract than myself.”
In addition, the club also announced that it has waived midfielder Ashley Grove.
“I would like to thank Ashley for her contributions this season and we wish her well in her future endeavors,” Billiard added.
