(March 27, 2014) - The Boston Breakers announced today the signing of forward Nkem Ezurike for the 2014 National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) season. She will be added to the roster pending the receipt of her P-1 visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC). Per team and league policies, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Ezurike was Boston's No. 1 draft pick in the 2014 NWSL College Draft. The Breakers selected the 5-foot, 11-inch University of Michigan star forward at No. 8 overall.

“It's very exciting to sign with the Boston Breakers. Playing professionally is something I've been working towards for a while now, and it's such a great feeling to get that opportunity, especially with a great organization like the Breakers,” Ezurike said. “I look forward to getting to know the team more as well as the coaching staff, and I’m excited to see what the team can do this season and what success we will have.”

A NSCAA All-American, Ezurike hails from Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia and is Michigan's all-time leader in goals (49) and points (118). A semifinalist for the 2013 MAC Hermann Trophy, Ezurike is a three-time NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region selection.

“We like her size and ability to play with her back to goal and hold the ball up,” Breakers head coach Tom Durkin said. “She doesn't have the breakaway speed of other strikers, but she can be a special player if she develops.”

The Breakers open the 2014 NWSL season April 13 at Seattle Reign FC before returning home to Harvard Stadium on April 20 to face the Houston Dash in their home opener. Tickets can be purchased by visiting or by calling 617-945-1704.
