(June 9, 2016) – The Boston Breakers announced today that Julian Haigh has been named the team’s official Head of Sports Science and Player Performance.

Haigh, a Liverpool, England native, was the assistant strength and conditioning coach at Liverpool Ladies FC from 2014 and 2015 and later served for Everton FC as a sports science intern. Haigh previously worked for Widnes Vikings RL in England’s professional rugby league as the first team assistant and head of academy sport science and strength and conditioning.

“This is a positive step for the organization. Player welfare is of the utmost importance to us. Adding a head of sports science and player performance will benefit our players from an overall welfare standpoint relating to health, and aid development of their game through the statistical analysis we can provide players individually and collectively,” Boston Breakers general manager Lee Billiard said. “As we continue to grow as a business, we are able to focus on providing our players with the best environment possible, on and off the field, to aid their progress and overall success. We welcome Julian to the Breakers Family.”

A UKSCA accredited Sport Scientist and Strength and Conditioning Coach, Haigh earned a Sport and Exercise Science degree at Liverpool John Moores University in 2011.

“For me, I feel like this is one of the most important appointments on the backroom staff because they can manage the players’ welfare and keep the players fit. We’ll benefit from having Julian here and the relationship we have with Stadium Performance,” Boston Breakers head coach Matt Beard said. “I worked with him for a short period at Liverpool while I was there. Obviously he’s got great experience working at Everton with the 21s and their academy and also working with the rugby league. He’s going to bring a wealth of experience. He knows the game.”
