(May 26, 2017) – The Boston Breakers, coming of a 2-2 draw in their last game at home against the Portland Thorns, travel to Portland, Saturday for a 10 p.m. ET clash with the Thorns. The Breakers come into Portland unbeaten in two straight.
The match can be streamed on go90.com or NWSLsoccer.com.
After last weekend’s tie, the Thorns (2-1-3) currently sit in fifth place in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) table with nine points. They’ve gotten a majority of their production out of forward Nadia Nadim, who leads the team and is second in the NWSL with four goals on the year. Goalkeeper Adrianna Franch has three shutouts in six games.
“It is always tough going on the road, especially to the West Coast and a three-hour time difference,” Boston Breakers head coach Matt Beard said. “We were disappointed last time out not to take all three points at Jordan Field against Portland. Providence Park is a great place to go and play, and as a group, we a very focused on getting a positive result there, but we know we have to be at our best for that to happen.”
The Breakers are led by forward Natasha Dowie, who has three goals and one assist through six games and was on the score sheet in Boston’s most recent game against the Thorns. She provided a goal and assist in last Friday’s 2-2 draw. The Breakers have also gotten contributions in the final third from forward Adriana Leon (one goal, three assists), midfielder Rose Lavelle (two goals, one assist), and midfielder Rosie White (one goal).
The Breakers come into Saturday’s match in seventh place in the NWSL table with eight points and a 2-2-2 record. They are just one point behind fourth-place Seattle and three points back of second-place Chicago. Saturday’s game will be their third on the road so far this season. In two previous road games, the Breakers lost, 2-0, to FC Kansas City, and tied the Chicago Red Stars, 1-1.
Following Saturday’s game, the Breakers play their next two games on the road - Orlando (June 3) and North Carolina (June 17) – before returning to Jordan Field to take on the North Carolina Courage on Saturday, June 24, at 4 p.m. ET.
