(Sept. 1, 2017) – The Boston Breakers head down south this Saturday, Sept. 2, to face the Orlando Pride for the second time on the road this season and third time overall. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. ET at Orlando City Stadium in Orlando.
After a 1-0 loss on the road to Sky Blue FC on August 26, the Breakers look to change pace and take points from Orlando in the Saturday night match up.
“Of course we just recently played them a few weeks ago in a close game. We felt on the day we deserved something from it,” Boston Breakers head coach Matt Beard said. “We are looking forward to going to Orlando and putting in a good display.”
The Breakers (3-10-7) take on an Orlando team that’s coming off a 2-1 win at FC Kansas City. The Pride (9-6-5) got a goal apiece from Chioma Ubogagu and Alex Morgan in the win. The Breakers fell, 1-0, on the road to Sky Blue FC last weekend.
Adriana Leon has led the Breakers going forward this season. She currently has five goals and four assists. Natasha Dowie (four goals and two assists) and Rosie White (three goals, one assist) add additional support to the Breakers attack. Goalkeeper Abby Smith has a total of 70 saves this season, placing her third for saves in the NWSL.
Orlando’s attacked as been fueled by Morgan and Marta. Marta (11 goals, six assists) is in third in the NWSL for goals scored and second place for assists. Morgan follows closely behind with eight goals, putting her in fifth place in the league. Morgan has scored the game-winning goal in three consecutive matches this season and she has scored in five straight games. Orlando are 5-2-0 at home this season. In the two losses, the Pride did not score.
After Saturday’s matchup, the Breakers head home to face the Portland Thorns on Sunday, Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. ET at Jordan Field in Allston, Mass. Boston will head down the coast to play the Washington Spirit the following Saturday (Sept. 23, 7 p.m. ET) at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Md.
