(Aug. 25, 2017) – The Boston Breakers head down the East Coast this Saturday, Aug. 26, to face their New Jersey rivals Sky Blue FC at 7 p.m. ET at Yurcak Field in Piscataway, N.J.
After a 2-1 loss at Jordan Field last Saturday to the Orlando Pride, the Breakers are ready to change momentum and grab points as they face Sky Blue FC for a Saturday night match-up, their first and only trip to Yurcak Field in 2017.
“We’ve had a good opportunity to get some recovery in after three games in seven days last week,” Boston Breakers head coach Matt Beard said. “We’ve also had progress on the injury front, so that is positive. Sky Blue will be on a high after what I can only describe as a crazy game against Seattle, but we are up for the test and want to walk away with all three points.”
The Breakers sit in ninth place in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) standings with a 3-9-7 record and 16 points. Sky Blue FC is in sixth place with a 8-9-2 record and 26 points. Sky Blue enters Saturday’s game coming off a 5-4, come-from-behind win against Seattle.
Adriana Leon (five goals, four assists), Natasha Dowie (four goals, two assists), and Rosie White (three goals, one assist) lead the Breakers going forward. Goalkeeper Abby Smith has a total of 70 saves this season, placing her fourth for saves in the NWSL.
Australian International Sam Kerr leads Sky Blue FC on the attack. She has 15 goals and three assists, first place in the league for goals scored. Adding to the offensive threat are Sarah Killion (five goals, two assists) and Maya Hayes (four goals, three assists). Goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan ranks third in the league for saves (72). As a team, Sky Blue has scored 34 goals this season, third best in the league.
Sky Blue allowed two goals in their first three games at home. In the six games since they have allowed 17 goals, including four goals in each of their last two home games.
After Saturday’s matchup, the Breakers face the Orlando Pride on Saturday, September 2 at 7:30 p.m. ET at Orlando City Stadium in Orlando, FL. Boston will head back home to play the Portland Thrones the following Sunday (September 10, 6:00 p.m. ET) at Jordan Field in Allston, Mass.
