(Sept. 18, 2015) - The Boston Breakers have unveiled their Team Awards for the 2015 season. Three of the five votes were voted upon by fans, one by players, and the other was an automatic win based on stats.
GOLDEN BOOT and MOST VALUABLE PLAYER– KRISTIE MEWIS
Leading the Breakers with six goals on the season, Mewis earns the Golden Boot award for 2015. The six goals ranked her tied for sixth in the National Women’s Soccer League. Mewis was voted MVP by the fans. She led the team and finished second in the league in both shots (81) and shots on goal (32) and was tops on the team and sixth in the NWSL in corner kicks (65). Mewis also tallied two assists. She played 1,785 minutes, second most on the team.
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR – STEPHANIE MCCAFFREY
McCaffrey finished tied for second on the team with three goals, which ranked her fourth amongst NWSL rookies. Her three assists was tops on the team this season.
DEFENDER OF THE YEAR – JULIE KING
The fourth-year Breaker started all 18 games she appeared in, moving into fifth place all-time for Breakers appearances (70). Her 1,580 minutes ranked her third on the team. King scored a career-high two goals on just seven shots on goal.
PLAYERS’ PLAYER – KASSEY KALLMAN
Voted on by her fellow Breakers, Kallman earned the Players’ Player Award for 2015. One of only two Breakers and nine in the NWSL to play all 1,800 minutes this season. Kallman, one of three captains on the team, was praised for her intense work ethic and strong play on the back line.
