Boston takes the road to Washington

Breakers bound for a win

(July 1, 2014) - The Boston Breakers continue on their seven-away game stretch this Wednesday to take on the Washington Spirit. Kickoff will be 7 p.m. EST at Maryland SoccerPlex. This meeting will be the third and final for the season.

The Breakers have been host for both matches at Harvard Stadium where each were hard fought battles. The first was back on May 28th, Boston had a solid lead but the Spirit walked away with a lucky 3-2 win. The next was on June 11th when the Breakers were coming off a 2-0 loss in Kansas City and were pumped to return home looking to settle the score. Boston shook things up and played their bench which worked out to their advantage and shut the Spirit out with the commanding 2-0 win.

Boston is continuing to improve and put together spectacular play. The newly acquired Bianca Sierra from Washington who was in exchange for Australian national Lisa DeVanna has been a great wingman for central defender Cat Whithill. The two are beginning to breakdown NWSL opposing team attacks and create counter play. Currently leading the league between the posts is Alyssa Naeher with 59 saves and simply an impressive player to watch game after game.

On the other side of the pitch is solid U.S. Women’s National team midfielder Heather O’Reilly who is putting together passes with England National team powerhouse Lianne Sanderson with four goals on the season. In Western New York this past Friday forward Nkem Ezurike is finding her way up top and scored Boston’s lone goal in the 71st minute with her intensity and hustle getting to a perfectly placed pass from midfielder Maddy Evans.

The Washington Spirit (7-7-1) are continuing on a constant stretch of points tallied and with the 1-0 win over the Houston Dash on Saturday have them sitting third the NWSL standings. The Breakers (3-10-1) are coming off a last minute 2-1 loss in Western New York where the Flash just got by and the Breakers are sure to be hungry for the three points to tally the win.

The Spirit will host the Breakers on Wednesday and will kick off 7 p.m. EST.  You can watch all the action live via YouTube. The Breakers will continue to play away through July but return home on August 3rd and welcome the Western New York Flash. You can purchase tickets at
