(March 14, 2017) – The Boston Breakers announced today that Paul McHugh will serve as assistant coach for the 2017 NWSL season.

McHugh, 44, holds a UEFA B License and has previously coached for Minneapolis United, East Durham Football Academy, Sunderland AFC Academy, Newcastle United Football Academy, and in the Peru National Team youth system.

He has a wealth of experience, working at Newcastle United Football Club and also as a coach educator in England, spanning more than 20 years,” Boston Breakers head coach Matt Beard said. “He also has a great personality, which I feel will enable us to work well together and create a good balance with the team.”

A Newcastle native, McHugh has also worked with Simon Smith Goalkeeping Gk1, Bobby Charlton Soccer Schools, and Sondico School of Football.

"Paul is top addition to the coaching team. He has excellent knowledge of the game, has shown he has a great personality, and his background in education will be a terrific compliment to Matt,” Boston Breakers president of soccer operations and development Lee Billiard said. “I am very excited about the staff and the roster that we have in place this year.”
