(Feb. 13, 2017) – The Boston Breakers announced today the re-signing of forward Natasha Dowie, pending receipt of her P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC). Per team and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Dowie, 28, most recently set a franchise record for the Melbourne Victory, scoring nine goals during the 2016-2017 Westfield W-League season in Australia. She was named to the PFA Jetts W-League Team of the Season.
“I'm delighted to be joining back up with the Boston Breakers,” Dowie said. “I really enjoyed my short spell there at the end of last season. There has been some strong additions to the squad, and I can't wait for training to start. It's a beautiful city, a great club, and I felt a lot of support from the fans last year. I'm enjoying my soccer right now, and I'm really looking forward to the new season.”
In 2016 with the Breakers, Dowie started all seven games she appeared in, logging 605 minutes. She led team in scoring with three goals. Dowie scored on her debut, a 1-0 win at home against the Orlando Pride on July 31, 2016.
“It was important to tie Natasha down after her impact she made last season on a struggling team,” Boston Breakers head coach Matt Beard said. “One thing I know she will do is score goals. I’m excited to see how she links up with all the attacking players we have signed this offseason.”
Prior to coming to Boston, Dowie played two years under Beard while Beard managed Liverpool Ladies FC. In her three seasons at Liverpool (2012-2015), Dowie scored 45 goals in 42 games. She was named the FA Players Player of the Year in 2013, the same year she led Liverpool to its first FA Women’s Super League title. Dowie has also played for Doncaster Rovers Belles, Fulham, Charlton Athletic, and Everton, where she scored the game-winning goal in the 2010 FA Cup Final against Arsenal.
Capped 14 times for England’s Women’s National Team, Dowie made her debut with the Lionesses in November 2009 at the FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifiers against Turkey. She came on as a sub in a 3-0 victory. She played for England in the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifiers and scored her first international goal on 2013 in a 6-0 win over Belarus.
